    Manuel Hernandez

    Dr. Manuel Hernandez is a board-certified dermatologist with a full year-long fellowship in Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery and advanced reconstructive surgery. He completed his undergraduate pre-medical studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y, where he earned a Bachelor of Art with Distinction in All Subjects. From Ithaca, he relocated to Boston, where he enrolled at Tufts University School of Medicine. After four years at Tufts, he interned at the New England Deaconess Hospital, a teaching hospital in the Harvard Medical School system. Next stop was St. Louis, where Dr. Hernandez pursued a dermatology residency at Barnes Hospital/ Washington University in St. Louis, serving as Chief Resident in dermatology. Finally, Dr. Hernandez obtained a coveted Mohs surgery and advanced reconstructive surgery, fellowship with Dr. Neil Swanson at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He enjoyed the privilege of being on staff at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Portland. Having been exposed to multiple experts in his field at these prominent academic institutions, Dr. Hernandez learned that hard work and perfectionism in caring for patients needs to be delivered with compassion to obtain the best possible results.

    Having had enough snow and cold for 13 years of schooling, Dr. Hernandez made Charlotte county his home in 1998, close to the ocean and where the warm weather is reminiscent of his childhood home in Puerto Rico. He became the first and only board certified dermatologist with fellowship training in Mohs surgery, and has enjoyed his serving our community ever since. His professional affiliations include the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, the Charlotte County Medical Society, and been named multiple times as a Florida Top Doctor in Dermatology.

    In his spare time, Dr. Hernandez enjoys boating with his family and his dog JJ. He is an enthusiastic cyclist and triathlete, his accomplishments including the Florida 140.6 Ironman, Escape from Alcatraz triathlon in San Francisco, Florida 70.3 Half Ironman, and the grueling Vuelta a Puerto Rico and Fort Myers to Key West bike rides.  He is always in search of new challenges and has most recently adopted gravel cycling.
